The Basics

What Are Trenchless Sewer Repairs?

Trenchless sewer repairs are a modern approach to pipe repairs that are completed by accessing the sewer pipe through a small access point, either in the house or near the potential break, and making the repairs inside the pipe without the need to bring in an excavation crew or dig up the affected area. Typically, trenchless repairs are performed using UV or chemical bonding, depending on the specific tool used. Now, this method is not always possible, but for the majority of issues, such as pipe breaks, pipe leaks, and intrusion issues, a trenchless repair is often possible and a cost-effective option that creates a long-lasting, durable repair.

Our Process

A Tried-and-Tested Repair Process

Here at BSP, we have developed a tried-and-tested trenchless sewer pipelining repair process that allows our expert plumbers to perform long-lasting pipe repairs that are not only code-compliant but will most likely outlast the pipe itself.

Camera Inspection

The first step in our process is to locate the break, crack or leak and conduct a thorough inspection of the entire length of the pipe. If we are dealing with a break, there could be blockages or other issues down the line, and a quick inspection with our cameras helps us avoid further problems.

Pipe Prep

Once we find the issue spot, we will use a hydro jet to clean and descale the pipe. This prep work is essential, as without it, the liner may fail to bond to the existing pipe due to grease, scale, hardened debris, or tree roots blocking it.

Install the Lining

No matter the exact process that we are following, the next step is to install the lining. The first step is to pre-impregnate the area with a non-VOC, UV-activated resin. We will then install the liner, which is normally shot into place with compressed air to the correct location, but we may also pull it in place.

UV Inversion

UV Inversion curing is one of the most popular options for cast-in-place installations and uses a low-voltage, cold-source LED to deliver a pipe patch for small-diameter sewer lines using LRI technology. The bond itself will be set in just a few minutes and requires no heat to complete the repair. Once done, the lining is strong and can handle water or sewage almost immediately.

UV Spot Repair Lining

UV Spot Repair Lining uses LR3 technology, which is used in pipes ranging from 3 to 6 inches and is both a spot repair and a pull-in-place pipe repair system. Once the installation site is prepped, this method can take as little as 10 minutes to complete the curing process and restore water or sewage flow with the now-installed liner in place.

Pull-in-Place Lining

Poll-in-place lining is another trenchless repair service we offer, allowing our plumbers to pull a flexible fabric or fibreglass liner into place. Once in place, curing is performed at ambient temperature, with the lining held tightly to the pipe's side by air pressure. These repairs will take a little longer, as we do not have light or heat to speed up the curing process.

Inspection

Once curing is complete and our equipment is out of the pipe, we will conduct a final inspection of the repair using a sewer camera and ensure it is functioning as expected. We will run some water down the line to check for leaks, bubbles or issues. Once we are happy, we will provide the all clear and open the pipe back up for normal use.
